Announcing the THIRD Trial!
The THIRD Trial is now enrolling surgical residencies in the United States. THIRD is a collaboration between the ACGME, ACS, APDS, and the ABS led by the Surgical Education Numbered Trials program at Indiana University.
Your department may want to participate in THIRD if it is interested in gaining greater support and access to surgery specific workplace well-being resources, expert coaches, and department level data benchmarked nationally.

Welcome to the Surgical Education Numbered Trials (SENT) Website! SENT consists of the FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD Trials which concentrate on enhancing the culture and learning environment of surgical residency programs and departments. SENT is dedicated to conducting innovative trials that inform policy changes and improve patient care, our mission is to revolutionize surgical education, enhance outcomes, and elevate the care of surgical patients.

The research conducted by the Surgical Education Trials team is made possible by partnerships with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Board of Surgery (ABS), Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS), Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the Society of Surgical Chairs (SSC). The Surgical Education Trials are funded by the ACGME and ACS.
