Yue-Yung Hu, MD, MPH
Northwestern University
Co-PI
Yue-Yung is a pediatric surgeon at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, an Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at Northwestern, and a co-PI of the SENT Trials. Her research interests are (obviously) surgical education and surgical culture.
Amy Holmstrom, MD

Co-PI
Dr. Holmstrom currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Surgery. She received her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Indiana University, Dr. Holmstrom completed her Advanced Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, where she had the title of Instructor in Surgery. Dr. Holmstrom's research focus is in surgical education with a focus on autonomy and assessment.
Karl Bilimoria, MD, MS

Karl is a surgical oncologist, Vice Chair of Quality, and Director of the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center (SOQIC) at Indiana University. His research interests are quality improvement, implementation science, and health policy. He was the PI for the FIRST Trial, which has grown into the SENT Trials. He has many other titles and accomplishments – too many to list here.
Daniela Amortegui, MA
Program Management
Specialist
Daniela is a program manager for the SENT Trials. She received her MA in International Education from the University of Huddersfield in the UK. Her content area knowledge focuses on developing culturally competent curriculum, policies, and materials to better create inclusive and diverse environments. She is passionate about integrating design-thinking frameworks into social impact projects like The SENT Trials.
Natalia Mackiewicz, BA
Project Management
Specialist
Natalia is a project manager for the SENT Trials. She received her BA in Psychology at Agnes Scott College in 2020 - focusing her research on underrepresented populations. Believing that research is the stepping stone of systematic action, she entered the field of Health Outcomes Research which led her to the SENT Trials. She is passionate about creating spaces where everyone’s story can be meaningfully heard, and sees this reflected in her work with the SENT Trials.
Joshua Eng, PhD
Statistical Analyst
A social/personality psychologist by training, Josh earned a BS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD the University of California, Berkeley. These days, he provides data management, analysis, and reporting support to Dr. Bilimoria, Dr. Hu, and other members of the SOQIC team as the primary statistical analyst for the SENT Trials. He also helps the SOQIC fellows refine their research skills and agendas by providing them with research methodology and data analysis advice.
Tiannan Zhan, MS
Statistical Analyst
Tiannan is a statistical analyst for the SENT Trials. She received her MS in biostatics from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2016. She has worked on a wide range of clinical studies as well as decision science projects in thyroid cancer, GI, and liver diseases at Mass General Hospital from 2016 to 2019. Her research interests lie in health policy research, health quality research, and data visualization.
Nathan Monson, MS
Application Developer
Nathan is the in-house web developer for the SENT Trials. He builds and maintains the SENT Trials online tools and resources, enabling the SENT team and trial programs to communicate and interact with each other in new and exciting ways. He has an MS in computer engineering from the University of Arizona.
